The metal and mining industry produces over 15 billion tonnes of tailings and waste rock, needing treatment and long-term storage. Reducing the amount of waste through the recovery of materials with value, improving wastewater treatment, and rethinking storage infrastructure are key elements of sustainable metal and mineral production.
